I think you'll all agree that (at the moment anyway), style and comfort don't exactly go hand in hand a lot of the time (fashion houses and Lady Gaga really don't help this fact :D) - beauty is pain, people.But no! Upon introduction to the luxury lifestyle label, Katie Perry - designed by the lovely Ms Katie Perry whom I had the absolute pleasure of catching up with about her work:
The Beginning:
Fashion really does run in my blood. My mother worked closely with the Benetton brothers in London in the 70’s before launching her own label so literally grew up surrounded by clothes. I designed my first outfit at 11 for the school disco (yes it was called a disco back then). As I grew up I understood that being a designer is not just about the designing aspects it’s about know the industry from the ground up. So I then went onto to work in different aspects of the industry. I worked as a stylist, manager and buyer for labels and stores such as Brown’s, South Molton St in London, as well as Jag, Oroton and David Jones. I then decided it was now or never and made the leap of starting my own label, Katie Perry.
The Philosophy:
My design philosophy is linked closely with my own philosophy. The Katie Perry label is all about a lifestyle; one of integrity by practising ethical business and social principles, quality with every garment being made in Australia and choosing to use Australian jersey so that every woman is comfortable and confident when they wear a Katie Perry piece.
The Katie Perry Vibe:
It's s all about a lifestyle of comfort without having to sacrificing style. Each pieces is made using jersey “a girl best friend” fabric. In each collection there are pieces to choose whether travelling, at work or at play.
The Biggest Step:
This would have to have been the battle of the Perry’s!! Last year I thought I was going to lose my entire label and hence my world when a certain singer tried to stop me using of my own name. Luckily with the amazing support I received from around the world I was able to fight for my label and the case was dropped.
The Love per Piece:
There is a long process from the sketch book to the end garment. I am old school and still do free hand sketches. When I design I have a woman in mind and after each sketch actually question would she wear this and what is she look for this season.
The Future
Hopefully sipping champagne celebrating the success of the label!! In 10 years I see the label being known as the Australian jersey label worn worldwide with international stockists. I would have a team all working for Katie Perry allowing me to design and travel, my two loves in the world.

Katie Perry for this Winter:
The piece this winter is……..Positano top. Its all about the gorgeous cowl neckline with lots of draping.
I can't remember the last time I felt like I could sleep in what I would leave the house in - Katie's work looks like it would fit just that category.
