Formal events are the perfect excuse for a woman to get dolled up. Girls will have the chance to open their closets, rummage through the jungle of clothes, reminisce the old pieces they have and revisit the back part where they can find evening dresses.
Together with the evening dresses, another thing to look forward to when you are about to attend formal parties or events are the accessories. Accessories are vital in completing the perfect look. They give life to the dress and make the person stand out more. It makes the evening dresses blend more to the occasion. A woman can make herself look edgy, preppy, elegant or chic just by getting the right accessories to go with the outfit. However, just like in dressing up, there is also a thing called over accessorizing. Nobody wants to be the lady who wore every accessory she can possibly wear.
For every evening or formal occasion, there is a certain type of look to be pulled off. Usually, it is the elegant look. After all, you ladies are not wearing those long evening dresses for nothing. Yes, you want to come off as put together, sleek, but still unique. Consider theses essential accessories as you finish your look for the special event.
Headpiece
In most formal, evening events, there are two types of hairdo's to go for. One is the up do, and the other one is the big locks. Whichever style you choose, you may want to use as minimal headpiece as you can. For some evening dresses, you don't need to use any at all! Well, for the main reason of standing out, one can still put a clip on the side of the head, just to give a little accent. If your hair is tied in a ponytail, try putting a ribbon on the tied area, or put it around the head so it would look like headband. Basically, the "less is more" rule applies for the hairstyle.
Earrings
These pieces may look tiny and unnoticeable, but sometimes, it's all the accessories you need to pull off a statement together with the evening dresses. One may choose to go with the stud earrings, or the dangling type. Stud earrings are good if you are leaning on to the simpler look. These are better worn if the hair just falls over your shoulders, or if you curl your hair. You don't want to be distracted with your earrings getting caught up in your tresses throughout the event. On the other hand, dangling (or chandelier) earrings goes well with up do style, since the accessories get the chance to showcase themselves, especially when they are extra long (or should it be extra heavy?). Depending on your mood, you can still choose which type you would like to pair up with the gown you are wearing.
Pearl earrings are the usual pickings in earrings. These babies go with all types of evening dresses (same goes with diamonds, but of course diamonds are a girl's best friend)!
Necklace
One of the most common worn evening dresses is the strapless type, which would mean necklaces are up for some partying! These accessories, depending on what design you are wearing, are showstoppers most of the time. They make statements, while showcasing your lovable shoulders, neck and chest area.
Like pearl earrings, pearl necklaces are veterans when it comes to matching the evening dresses in your closet. They are simple, but still elegant.
Necklaces can be either the choker type, but that's hardly worn in formal occasions. Another one is the standard length of necklaces that fall off just right above the chest area. And unusually for evening affairs, there is the long strand necklaces if "chic" is the look you are looking for.
Bracelet
Arm candies are used, either casually or formally, so it is kind of tricky to pull off an elegant look if you get the wrong bracelets. For evening dresses, gold or silver are good bets, and are safe. In wearing long sleeved evening dresses, try on the simplest ones, so they will not veer the attention away from the overall design of the gown.
Experimenting with bracelets is good with strapless or sleeveless evening dresses. Since you have that bare arms to show off, it's time to get some arm party in there. Just make a little effort in avoiding really bulky bangles, so you won't give the hippy vibe instead of the chic look.
Ring
Besides freshly manicured fingernails, ladies can also opt to wear a ring (sometimes, rings)to go with the evening dresses. Simple rings, or the ones with a gem, are okay, as long as it matches with the outfit. But again, always take a second look if you are over accessorizing now. One or two rings still fall under the elegant look.
Purse
Using the right bag for an event contributes a lot in completing that style, hand in hand with evening dresses. Since it is one of the accessories that would be most exposed because you are holding on to it the whole night, it is best to find the right match with the dress. It is not at all necessary that the bag and dress be of the same color. Actually, it would not look flattering for the dress, as well as for the bag. Both their purpose will just vanish.
Formal events call for clutches, meaning you have to stash away those strapped bags for the night. Yes, you would be clutching (hence, the word) on to it for the rest of the party, but the demure look will be there the entire time. In choosing the right clutch to use, consider the evening dress you have. If the evening dresses you have are very busy in prints or details, balance it out with a simple clutch. In contrast, make the bag stand out for you when your dress exudes simplicity. Again, be aware of going overboard.
No matter what event you are attending, always make sure that the clutch you are going for can carry all the girly necessities you need for the night. Do not let the accessories and the evening dresses suffer. Being a girl, it is natural that you may think you need a whole bunch of other things, but limit it to your phone, tissue, a powder and lipstick for retouch and a sanitizer. The rest, you can let them wait in the car for a couple of hours.
Experimenting is the key to finding the perfect look for an event. As mentioned over and over, do not bundle up on all accessories you can get your hands on. Give chance for the evening dresses to shine through, girl! Accessories should be there to support the whole look, not take over the look. After all, it is the time for evening dresses to come out and take the spotlight.
